How the devil are you?
"Really well. I'm working on new songs for a new album, loving on my wife and two kids between
tours, and it's early spring here in Athens, Georgia."
What was the first gig you ever went to?
"A battle of the bands in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where I grew up. I think every band did
a version of 'Louie Louie'!"
What were you like at school?
"Quiet, painfully shy. I was a good student and toed the line."
If you weren't a music star what would you be?
"Well, being a music star is a form of delusion thinking, so I'd rather be just about anything
else."
What is your most treasured material possession?
"My time with my wife and son."
What's the worst record you've ever made?
"I haven't made one of those... Hey, am I delusioned?"
When did you last cry and why?
"I cried over the loss of life in the last quake in India."
What's your poison?
"Irish beer."

"A painfully shy smart-ass."
What's in your pockets right now?
"Kryptonite."
Who was the last person you punched?
"My younger brother when we were about 15 and twelve years old. He's a painfully outgoing
smart-ass."
What was the last record you bought?
"A CD version of the Beatles' 'Revolver'... Brilliant. I used to own a lot of vinyl."
What are you most likely to complain about in a hotel?
"Noisy patrons."
What characteristics do you think you've inherited from your parents?
"My mother's love for language and its passion and my father's tendency towards depression...
But he loves baseball and taught me a love for sports, before the day of the over-paid athlete."
What's your most unpleasant characteristic?
"I sulk sometimes, and I usually snap out of it pretty quickly... But stay away when I'm pouting!"
What's your culinary specialty?
"Pasta."
What's your greatest fear?
"Damnation."
What music would you have played at your funeral?
"A couple of Tom Waits songs ('Come On Up to the House' and 'Take It With Me', both off his last
album... and of course 'Amazing Grace'. Jesus does live, you know..."
What's the greatest film ever made?
"Wow... The Shawshank Redemption and the Green Mile."
Can you recite a line of poetry?
"Whose woods these are I think I know/His house is in the village though. - Robert Frost."
Have you ever been arrested?
"Nope."
What turns you on?
"My wife's eyes. They are green and full of mystery, and we've been married 20 years. What a
doll!"

"a warm gun."
Where are you off to now?
"The loo."
