Can you tell me something about the history of Roadsaw?
Tim: "We’ve been around for about four years. Various members have changed, but right now it’s the best line-up ever."
Craig: "It took a few years to actually come together with the people that are in the band now. Everything is beginning
to happen right now, because now we have the right members."
Is it true that one of you guys played in the hardcore-band Slapshot?
Tim: "Oh, that was Darryl, our old guitar player. He’s not in the band anymore. He has a new band now, Milligram, with
the old singer of Only Living Witness. It’s a really good band."
Which bands have influenced you?
Tim: "Cactuss, Iron Butterfly, Black Sabbath, Captain Beyond."
Craig: "And also Josh Homme from Kyuss, now Queens of the Stone Age. Whatever he does is great."
Tim: "But we’re also influenced by heavy blues and psychedelic rock."
You guys were playing stonerrock even before the term stonerrock was invented?
Tim: "Oh yeah, everybody was doing that Seattle-stuff. We like heavy, but we don’t like that. So we were doing what we
were doing and then it seemed like everybody started thinking the same, you know, like grunge being too light."
Craig: "We did a single on Man’s Ruin and that made us get in touch with a lot of people, like Nebula. They were Fu
Manchu at that time, and by hanging around with those people we kinda got lumped in the whole stoner-thing, just by
association, not necessary because it’s stonerrock. But if the kid can go to the internet, look up stonerrock and find us:
sounds good. If people can find us, then we’re psyched."
Is there an explanation for the name Roadsaw?
Craig: "We were really, really stoned, we saw something we didn’t know what it was. We called it a Roadsaw. We
joked about that being the name of our band, and then it stuck."
Tim: "It’s like a big piece of heavy machinery tearing up the road (Tim acts as if he is cutting a road in two)."
Craig: "Like a six foot blade, a giant cutting wheel! You know, since we toured so much it’s kinda like we teared up the roads. The name is what we’ve done, it’s got a double meaning in it. We toured like crazy. That’s how we got in touch
with bands like Nebula, you know."
Why was the album 'Nationwide', released in ’97, re-released in ’99?
Craig: "When we recorded 'Nationwide' we were on a small label called Curve Of The Earth. And then MIA picked us
up, and they re-released it."
Tim: "It’s been three years since we’ve been able to put out a record. We got a new record with us now, but it’s not at MIA, it’s something we did on our own, because MIA wouldn’t let us put out a record."
Hari: "They don’t know how to promote a band like us."
Last time you played at the Effenaar, you played with a band from Eindhoven.
Tim: "Yeah, Candybar Planet!"
Craig: "We’ve been talking with them at dinner."
Tim: "Is there somebody from Candybar Planet in 35007?"
Yes, the guitar player does the keyboard stuff in 35007?
Tim: "Right. When we first came over here, somebody played 35007 and 7 zuma 7 and all that stuff. So we knew them
before. I like the scene over here. Eindhoven Rockcity! It’s pretty cool."
(Craig, talking to somebody in the room: "Hey Ruben, are you eating a kiwi? Alright! It’s now officially a rockshow.")
We would have asked Darryl: Slapshot or Roadsaw?
How is your relation with the other bands playing here tonight?
Craig: "We know Nebula for a long time, so touring with those guys is like getting in a bus with your great friends."
Hari: "All these bands playing tonight kick fucking ass! We’ve never been on such a great stoner bill.
I’m going two mention two items, then you have to choose one and explain why you’ve chosen it: Heineken or
Budweiser?
Tim: "I guess that’s not really a choice."
Craig: "But we do Budweiser."
Tim: "Drinking Heineken in the States is special. It’s import, you know. But it’s not nearly as good as what we normally drink."
Hari: "The thing is, we are more Budweiser-rock than we are stonerrock."
Craig: "He would definitely say Milligram."
Black Sabbath or Kyuss?
Craig: "Black Sabbath. They are the originals."
Nashville Pussy’s female guitar player or female bass guitar player?
All: "Bass guitar player!"
Tim: "She is so tall! But she wins because she’s got such big...tattoos."
Okay, back to Roadsaw. The last question: what are your plans for the future?
Tim: "Stay here for as much as we can."
Craig: "After this tour we’re going back to the States and we’re coming back here later this year."
