Some of you started a band named 'Kankersores' some years ago. What made you change the whole thing into 'The Icarus Line' after the first band had broken up?
"Well, the b
and never really broke up. It ended when our drummer Tim died in a car accident. That was the main reason for us to stop with Kankersores. We were also moving a bit into another direction. "
The first released 7 inch consisted of old Kankersores songs. Why did you release the songs under the name of The Icarus Line?
"We just needed some songs. There was no new material. "
Like Kankersores The Icarus Line sounds pretty heavy and aggressive. Is it because making music is some sort of a outlet for you guys or is it just the musical style you like?
"Before we could drive we were playing in a punk band. Playing punk shows, touring, putting out records. That's all we've done forever. This is all we know how to do."
Icarus is a person in a Greek myth. Is there a relationship between the myth and the band name?
"There are two ways on this one. In Los Angeles, in the Hollywood area there is this boulevard. Here in Holland you walk by and you see these whores. There, in our red light district we've got these non-chick chicks. Probably the most famous one, his nickname is Icarus. Apparently his services are so good that there is always a line. That's The Icarus Line. The second one is that The Icarus Line is the breaking point, that certain time in life when everything is hard. That is more about the Icarus in the myth. When he tried to reach the sun the wax he made his wings of started to melt. So in that's another explanation of the name: trying to reach a point you can't reach."
Why is the last record called 'Mono'? What does 'Mono' mean to you?
"It's almost everything. The look, the sound, the atmosphere. Have you ever had that mono disease, kissing disease (mononucleosis, also known as Pfeiffer's disease - ed.)? You get tired and feel like doing nothing, it's like that."
What ingredients does a song need according to you before it will be recorded in the studio?
"We just play what's in our mind. There aren't special ingredients we definitely need in a song or things like that."
What kind of music do you listen to when you all are back home? What bands or artists?
"System Of A Down. Whole day System Of A Down."
Man, that's boring!
"Actually we like different kinds of music. I for instance like to listen to Genius/GZA, Wu Tang."
Any plans for a new album?
"Nope. We're writing new songs, but there is always this lack of money."
Do you have anything else to mention before I run away?
"Is there still no one who wants to suck my dick? You can stay here and have chips and bananas."
