For a relatively small band Flemming managed to get quite a crowd to see them at Rotterdam's small music-cafe Rotown, although at least one-fourth must have been friends (and at the same time fans!) of the band.
They immediately treated us with their first single 'Name?', possibly with the intention to warm up the crowd so they would do some dancing and "This is not a Mojo gig so feel free to crowd-surf or stage-dive." This would have worked perfectly if not all the other songs up to the last song (bar the planned encore '2 By 2'), which was the spectacular and personal favourite 'Your Way' , were slow, non-danceable tunes.
New track 'Happier Than I', next single ("But shhh, we're not really allowed to tell you yet.") 'Starry Night', and 'Free to Choose' are not really songs you will hear being played in Ibiza night-clubs, will you? Of course that is not the point of the gig though (Elliot Smith, Radiohead, and Velvet Belly would be in serious trouble then!), and therefore there is really no bad comment to make about it!
Rutger had a wonderful voice, Pup was responsible for some serious phat basslines, Jiggle kept up the Echo & the Bunnymen look with his lovely coat - oh yeah, and his guitar-work was great despite suffering from a serious fever -, Eddy looked cool and happy behind his synthesisers and everything else he had surrounding him, and Mark probably only has that haircut to shake it around wildly while playing the drums. Great band. Try to see them live people!
