Transformed Dreams, a small label from Amsterdam is organising a few of these parties to introduce their signings to the public. This was the first party.
The evening kicked off with the English video-artist Dan Geesin, he played some funny, simple songs on his piano. But his short movies played on a big screen next to him were much more interesting.
After this the first band, Birdskin played their half-hour. Starting with 4 musicians they sounded like a heavy Built To Spill. Nice poppy songs, but when one musician left the stage the band pumped up the tempo. This had a bad influence on their melodies, but resulted in a bit more raw sound, which gave more temptation to move your feet.
Zea, the second band tonight sounded like a young and freaky version of Pavement. They like weird sound effects and experiments, also the singing isn't always perfect, but this just makes their songs more interesting. It's also good to see a young singer who enjoys performing. They were really hitting you straight in the face, like a japanese comic turning into noise!
Zoppo, the band started as a livingroom project and really sounds like that. This gives them an extra charm next to their singer. They build music, from sweet melodies into ordered chaos. Sometimes like Sonic Youth or Yatsura, but most of the time like Zoppo. They really have their own style.
Last one up was Seedling, but when your last train is due to leave, you have to go home. Unfortunately I missed out on these girls because of trains.
