What's in a title. Tricky's EP is entitled "Mission Accomplished". Indeed, you managed to sink even lower, ole chap. Guess that "Maxinquaye" was a flash of brilliance. Lasted about 15 minutes and then *poof* it was gone in a cloud of weedsmoke. Where is Portishead by the way? And what about Massive Attack? But we aren't talking about them... or are we? Blue Foundation is a group of guys not unlike Gus Gus: trying to confuse you with all their different activities. From theatre to phat beats and Trip Hop, they do it all. Their self-entitled record is also very similar to the Gus Gus sound. Actually the problem is that they don't seem to have their own identity. Their debut album reminds you of Bjork, Portishead and a million other Trip Hop bands out there. And therein lies the problem: From Hollywood with its filmic strings and girly vocals to the Massive Attack-like Black S, Evo with Bjork-reminiscent vocals and the heavy breathing Cutting Me Up, it all sounds like something else. But fear not, unlike Tricky, the only way is up.
