This must be weirdest album I've come across in ages. Holistic Recordings proclaims itself to be the guardian of eclectic music and it must be said, it doesn't get more eclectic than this. This album by Delta T, a live band consisting of five members and according to the press release pretty big in their home base the Isle of Wight, starts off with dreamy rock ('Vortexture'), continues with pure afrobeat ('Meju') and then serves some sixties funk ('Seven Levels'). By the time you get to the end you'll have had your share of reggae, free-jazz and even a bit of folk. As I said, this is weird stuff. It sometimes sounds more like a compilation album then a band album, but that doesn't necessarily spoil the fun. There are some very nices tunes on this one, like 'Meju' (which sounds like a tribute to Femi Kuti), the very catchy eighties reggae tune 'Hanging Tree', the free-jazz track 'Freefall' and 'Kay Jay Bee' (folk meets punk). Just keep track of your remote control to skip a few of the lesser tracks.
