Goddamn freaks. They're fucking insane. This EP is the best proof for anyone who had the slightest idea that Mike Patton might be a maniac. His solo music on John Zorn's Tzadik label also offers solid empirical evidence, but this collaboration with other certified neurotic patients Dillinger Escape Plan proves it once an for all. And then I'm not even talking about their own songs. Those very inaccessible pieces of work are incredible blends of hardcore, insanity, technical death metal, insanity, jazz, insanity, plain weirdness, insanity, and some beautiful melodies. No kidding about that last thing. All three are equally outstanding displays of extremely neurotic heavy music. But the real insanity — notice how many times I use the word — comes with the last song. A cover from Aphex Twin's Come To Daddy. Not only is this version better, tighter, and even much better sounding, but, no, the impossible has happened as well: This version is more insane than the original. You're reading it right, folks. The Dillinger Escape Plan with Mike Patton has succeeded in sounding more fucked up than Aphex Twin. Now that's something you can tell your grandkids.
