Perfect Isolation is the three-track debut single by Chicago-based
synth pop group Endora. The problem nowadays with
synth pop is that there are too many groups that are
alike. A lot of acts that produce this kindamuzik come
up with very slick and plain interpretations of the
genre. There are only a few acts that are actually
good at it and are able fuse the genre with something
new. Such groups are Ladytron and Mechanical Cabaret.
Endora is not such an act (yet?).
The music of Endora is like that of many other
contemporary synth pop acts, such as Depeche Mode
rip-offs Mesh, or S.P.O.C.K. Besides that, the vocal are
delivered in the way a lot of '80s B-goth-rock bands
used to, namely fake-emotional and over-the-top-dramatic.
The song Perfect Isolation is a very danceable track,
but has nothing original to it, nor to its vocals. Smile
(All Lost), the second song, is a ballad kindasong,
which isn't bad, but again, the vocals. Swoop is the
last song and the best, mainly because it's an
instrumental. There are some nice sounds used
in it, but regrettable are the mainstream dance
hi-hats. They make the song pretty slick.
It is not that Endora makes lousy music; it is just
that they still need to find a sound of their own... and
get rid of the singer.
