Studying American literature usually does not automatically turn out in a career as a country singer. Florence Dore from Nashville, however, has combined her fascination for literature with her musical talents, but not without a little help from producer Eric Ambel (Blood Oranges, Bottle Rockets, and Steve Earle) and Dennis Diken from The Smithereens.
Perfect City is an honest country rock album, which you can easily file under the same category with the work of Lucinda Williams and country rock queen Emmylou Harris. Florence Dore keeps the focus on the lyrics. Here on Perfect City the American writer William Faulkner inspires most of the songs. Probably the best introduction to her work is the first song Early World, but the dreaminess in No Nashville and the heartfelt Christmas are remarkable tunes too.
