Gerry Mohr and Robert Butler released a psychedelic garage revival classic in 1985 called Inside Out with their band The Miracle Workers. I have to admit I never heard of them, but that probably is more a reflection of the fact that, in 1985, my favourite song could still be found on a Sesame Street record than of the quality of the record, which is classic enough to be still in print.
Anyway, in 2002, Mohr and Butler find themselves in - of all places - Switzerland, where, with fellow American Chris Morales and Kat Aellen (one of the reasons the band ended up in Switzerland), they formed Get Lost! According to record company propaganda, their debut Never Come Back is the follow-up to Inside Out. Because of the lack of inclusion of Miracle Workers songs on Sesame Street records, I can't really tell if that's the case.
Never Come Back is a pretty good album, though. Mohr has enough sneering in his voice to cut any unfaithful women in half, sonically. The generous amounts of fuzz distortion will finish off any remaining survivors. And even with all of that fuzz, in some amazing way, Never Come Back manages to sound as clear as a Swiss mountain stream. These ingredients together make up for killer tracks like One Way Ticket, Spooky, and You're The One. But not everything is on that level. The 4284th cover version of Leaving Here, for example, seems a bit unnecessary, even though there's nothing really wrong with the execution.
Boogiehut and Love Is A Garden are worse, but giving songs lame titles like that will seal their fate. (A challenge for all composers among our readers: Try to write a decent song, keeping in the back of your mind that it has to be called Love Is A Garden. I guarantee you will fail. A title like Love Is A Garden is an albatross the size of Jupiter around the neck of any song.)
But, as long as you take a One Way Ticket out of the garden of love and the boogiehut, you'll be fine.
