Jack Drag is Jack Dragonetti, a cute indie-rock guy from Boston who makes cute, psychedelic, sample bedroom rock with cute song titles like Happy Songs Of Lata, Gettin' High With Jesus, and She's My Kind Of Boy. Summarizing: If his mix of Mellow Gold-era Beck and Eels wasn't so damn catchy, Dragonetti would be terribly annoying.
Maybe you remember his small hit We Could've Been Big from his previous album. Then you have a good impression of what you will find on The Sun Inside, because Jack Drag is a bit of a one-trick pony. Which means that the 14 tracks and 51 minutes of The Sun Inside are too much of the same. Pick out the good tracks like FM Royalty — co-written by Dan the Automator, who's contribution seems obligatory with this kind of music — Gettin' High With Jesus, and Now Or Never. Special mention deserved for Beer Helps Us Cope, the one track that is really different. The title suggests a balls-to-the-wall rocker — someone should really tell Dragonetti that his titles are not as funny as he thinks they are — but it is a beautiful, haunting ballad and by far the best track of the album.
Oh, and hidden somewhere in the artwork is the line "Bush is a punk-ass chump."
Cute.
