While we're still eagerly awaiting the arrival of Jeff Mills' album, this could become one of the records of the year. Finnish tech-house weapon Jori Hulkkonen has been putting out his credentials for quite a while now, releasing and remixing on a variety of labels, but for me this is finally the mature work he just had to come up with. Already if you look at the sleeve of this ep you just know that there is pure class hidden inside. And indeed: three gems of the highest quality prove that Jori will become one of the main players in the house community for the following months. 'From a distance' kicks off with sweet piano's and tons of spacy noises, before a female vocal starts crying ' I'm so in love with you'. Heaven, I tell you. On the flipside two more breakbeat/electro influenced cuts with the parlando 'The moment' philosophising about the creative process, while the piano-led breakbeat track 'Versus' follows suit with last year's regrowing influence of electro (Layo&Bushwacka, remember?). Astonishing, musically, as well as packaging- wise. Eleven on a scale of ten, if you dig.
