Lowjack is an American fourpiece hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The band started in 1999 and consists of former members from local-known bands. Clint Arent used to play the bass in Combustion, while drummer André Calilhanna and guitarist Jack Gillespie played together in the band Flesh Tuxedo. It wouldn't amaze me if the guitarist inspired the bandname, because he has tuned his instrument really low. This can especially be heard in the first and the third track ('Change' and 'Token') which are also my favorite tracks of this 4-track EP. The use of the guitar-riff in the first song reminded me of Tool, while the third song is a song in the tradition of Stone Temple Pilots and Alice In Chains. The comparison with the last band lies totally in the use of the background vocals behind a heavy guitar-riff. With this in mind you can easily put them under the label post-grunge together with 3 Doors Down, Bush and Creed. But because they try to create tension in the total song (instead of depending on a single monster-riff or the cries of the leadsinger) and because of the unconventionally low guitar, Lowjack is a good alternative for those who can't get excited by the aforementioned post-grunge bands
