Magic Radios is the result of a collaboration between an electronic music artist and a member of an experimental jazz ensemble. Kamal Joory put out records as Geiom on labels like Skam and Neo Ouija. Morgan Caneys musical background comes from experimental jazz and art projects. An unusual mix of backgrounds that provides a fresh sound on Berlin-based City Centre Offices. At their best Caney and Joory not only prove that modern electronica and experimental jazz share the same approach to making music, they also make the combination work. Like in 3000 Miles. The ambient soundscapes form an excellent foundation for moody horn sounds accompanied by a rugged but at the same time gentle beat. Crispy Leaves Underfoot contains the same ingredients while Take My Light features soundscapes accompanied by an acoustic guitar and almost poppy vocals, a strange combination that works very well. A few of the tracks are nothing more than thirteen-in-a-dozen background ambient songs but the fruitful combinations of ambient and jazz make this album a refreshing addition to the already impressive catalogue of City Centre Offices.
