'Excitation!' is from 1999, so the distributor is a bit late. They also didn't include a bio, and I couldn't find much on Mucus 2 on the internet, so I'm not even sure if they still exist. What I did find out is that singer Sad Rockets was born in Uzbekistan, raised in California, recorded this album with Mucus 2 while living in Heidelberg, and he's currently residing in Berlin. He's also in a band called Bergheim 34 and has a solo contract with Matador. No idea how those projects sound, but Mucus 2 is the German answer to the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, another Matador act. To call Mucus 2 a shameless rip-off would be wrong, because they have a more diverse sound than JSBX, with influences that could be best classified under the 'lounge/exotica' category. Band member Kid Charlemagne's (Cannonball Schmitt and Redondo Beat complete the quartet) trumpet playing is responsible for this, together with an arsenal of antique synthesizers and organs and the occasional walking bassline. And when they to copy the Explosion, they do it rather well most of the time, although sometimes they sound a bit flat, somewhat less 'begeisterend'.
