A metal band with a female lead singer, yes, but not in the fairytale kinda way; nor gothic, per se; nor symphonic metal. Non of Us, from Holland's most southern province Limburg, call their niche "cross-core" and, to be quite honest, that's not too far off.
Their second recording is delivered in a truly stunningly beautiful slipcase and has the tasteful artwork to go with it. The music ranges from slow, dark, and atmospheric to metal outbursts of heavily pounding drums and distorted powerriffs, but always maintaining a definite sense of raw power and melody.
For Non of Us, there are no musical limits or boundaries, and it shows! This demo is a bold statement. Bold because, though the picture in the bio shows a typical "nu-ish"-metal-styled group, the music speaks in as many tongues as Babylon. Some old Gathering can be heard, as well as an attempt to achieve dynamic soundscapes, as known from Tool.
Non of Us exemplifies the new forms of metal we can expect. In a genre wherein cropped-up, so-called broken home and nookie anger rules the charts, this voice from the southern underground is a welcome new breed. With better production, this band could grow to bigger stages and have quite a career. It's truly nothing and everything, but also a deep, dark, truthful mirror for everyone to take a good look in — starting with the hip gangster-wannabe nu-metal gods. This is a sound from the underground. And below.
