'Life Enhancing Audio' finally found a successor for the huge seller 'Gemini' by Sven Van Hees and again the label looked for its juice in Antwerp. Plastyc Buddha consists of session musicians Stephan Parmentier and Pieter Verschueren, delivering eleven tracks on their debut album. An album that's already been compared to the likes of Thievery Corporation and the omnipresent K & D, 'cause from the first few notes it's clear that the Antwerp duo has been thorougly listening to the truckload of nu jazz and lounge releases that hit our record shops every week. But that doesn't mean this is a good album. Maybe it's the fact that I consequently fell asleep when listening to the album in the late hours, maybe it's the fact that this debut doesn't have one track on it that sounds different from the other or perhaps it's due to the overall 'where have I heard this before'-feeling, I don't know. Fact is that this cd sounds too much middle of the road for my liking. Parmentier and Verschueren clearly have the craftmanship to seamlessly produce modern lounge music, but not the imagination to keep my attention spam going. Music for the masses and absolutely obligatory stuff for organisors of standing receptions.
