Long awaited debut album by hiphop slam poetry champion Sage.

This is a full-length debut many have been waiting for, for a long time. After earning a couple of freestyle battle championships and a few poetry slam titles, Sage Francis, a.k.a. Paul Francis, a.k.a. Strange Famous, a.k.a. Stage Presence, a.k.a. Xaul Zan (none of which are his real name — Sage is in the witness protection program) has finally recorded an hour of music. To say his style is unique is too much, but his combination of old-school jazzy beats, and intelligent, thought-through, intense lyrics surely give Sage Francis his own niche in hip-hop. The story of his often not-too-easy life (hence the title Personal Journals) is described by some as emo hip-hop, but that doesn't seem a fair description: Sage Francis is emotional, but not in a sentimental way . . . he isn't R.-fucking-Kelly. He is hip-hop, full and through. This hip-hop epos is only interrupted by My Name Is Strange — a true stranger on the album, but not superfluous. This live song shows clearly Sage can do more than just commercials (e.g. the ABC X-games), writing developed lyrics and combining them with old-school-influenced jazzy beats. This is a traditional rock song that is an obvious live favourite.
