Around the year of 1994, Big Cat really didn't have any reason to complain, with signed bands and artists like Pavement, Heather Nova, God, Blumfeld, and a band called Crowsdell. The latter released their debut 'Dreamette', which gave a good impression how a collaboration between Pavement and Bettie Serveert would sound. And although the album was highly appreciated, the band decided to split in 1997, but two years later we were happy to see a release by the singer of the band: Shannon Wright. It was called 'Flightsafety' and featured a constant sound, and Shannon herself played almost all of the instruments on the album. The song 'All These Things' should have been a success as a single, but unfortunately the listeners didn't pick it up. But hey, she publicly said she was, "disgusted with bullshit music industry practice," so I guess they expected it. 'Dyed in the Wool' is her third album, and unfortunately it is quite boring. The opener, 'Less than a Moment', sounds promising, you hope the howling on 'The Hem Around Us' is a one-time mistake, and the piano play on 'Hinterland' and 'Vessel for a Minor Milady' is really impressive with some reference to the mysterious gamuts of Muse's 'Origin of Symmetry'. But those are the first four songs, and after that you've heard everything. The pace slides down, and your attention starts fading. We have to wait until 'The Path of Least Persistence', one of the last songs on the album, to find something positive, and a few minutes later 'Dyed in the Wool' is finished. Could have been a nice EP, but as a full-length album it really isn't enough.
