The format of Spinrecords.com (http://spinrecords.trivnet.com) is interesting, especially for an internet based mag like The Kindamuzik. It is a record company which takes bands on the internet to promote and sell their CD's. But, of course you can also buy the albums in the regular shops. One of the first releases from this label is The Color Red's 'Below the Under', a Riverside, California based rock quintet. On this debut they combine the catchy choirs and melodic guitar loops of (punk)pop-bands like The Offspring, Foo Fighters and Weezer with power and anger we know from The Deftones and Papa Roach. This results in a commercially interesting, but very safe and not always original sound. That the sound of TCR appeals to a bigger audience proves the shows the act did together with bands like No Doubt, Papa Roach, Korn, The Offspring and Sugar Ray. Producer of 'Below the Under' is Richard Mouser, who has also worked with Weezer and Corrosion of Conformity. He gives the band an 'in-your-face' sound that prevents the band from becoming too poppy. Listen to the first song 'Dangerous' to hear the emotionally-charged Deftones-like style, the fifth song 'Tiny Places' for a more melodic and poppy side of TCR and the last song ('Cloud') to hear them experimenting. Especially the last song is one of my favorites of this album, because TCR demonstrates in this song that they can make exciting music. Because overall, TCR has got quality and 'Below the Under' consist of a good sound. But it all sounds a little bit too safe and commercially correct for me. Last thing: there is a rumor spreading that TCR is the new addition to Papa Roach's New Noize Record label... To be continued?
