You remember the first time you put 'Songs About Fucking' on? So heavy you feared your entire stereo would just drop through the floor in your parents' living room. V.3 just manages to drop your stereo down trough the cellar right to the middle of the earth. Well, not quite but you get the picture. 'Photograph Burns' was recorded for a couple of hundred dollars. So if you're into slickly produced records, this won't be your cup of tea. But that would be your loss. Looking at the cover, you know the sonic ride won't be a sunny one. Dark, moody and depressing that is what V.3's sound is all about. Think garage rock in the middle of the night with a couple of six packs in the corner. At times the sound is so murky you can't quite understand what Jim Shepard and friends is on about but you know it isn't about the suns and the flowers. The first track 'American Face' introduces you immediately to the world of Jim Shepard. 'Swipe that stupid ego-smile from your American face...'. Or what about 'Hating Me. Hating You'? No, this is ain't for the faint at heart. Think Peter Laughner with a heavy guitar and pounding drum to back him up. Maybe the Stooges? Or the MC5? Yeah, I guess so. There's definitely a seventies vibe hovering over the record. Sadly just like Laughner, Jim Shepard is now also dead, a great talent lost forever.
