It isn't the most productive band around. After five years of waiting for a new album and wondering whether the band still existed they come up with a new album. Just like the debut without a title, but fans already call it 'The Green Album', so we'll copy that. Weezer were always known because of the nice nerd-rock songs and the funny lyrics about the miserable experiences of singer Rivers Cuomo. His misery led to the worldwide hit single 'Buddy Holly' and one of the most underestimated albums ever, even by Weezer fans themselves: 'Pinkerton'. 'The Green Album' only lasts for half an hour, the band seems to shorten the total playing time with five minutes every release. The total of ten songs is still there, but this time there aren't any highlights. The three-minute songs consist of some verses, refrains, and a guitar solo. Nothing additional, they just stick to the normal guitar-bass-drums setting; uncomplicated, but still catchy as hell. The only exception is the soothing 'Island in the Sun'. Besides this, everything makes the cool summer come a little earlier. Still, it's the least appealing of the Weezer albums, due to the predictability of the songs and the absence of an 'El Scorcho', a 'Buddy Holly', or an 'Across the Sea'. And the choice to leave the 'Teenage Victory Song', recorded at the same time, off of the album. Still, not enough reason to complain too much about it, because Weezer provide us with a very nice half an hour of balanced pop music.
