Can you tell me who drew the "I See A Darkness" cover? What is it exactly?
"The Queen mother, Joanne Oldham, made the front cover of ISAD; it's a
collage of sorts, made with tissue paper. And, obviously, it's a skull!"
When you went on tour the Anomoanon played you on one date. Can you tell me more about the band? Who is in it?
"The Anomoanon is a band headed up by my brother, Ned. Also in the band
are Jack Carneal, Willy McClean, Aram Stith, Jason Stith, and sometimes
Peter Stith, Matt Sweeney, as well as occasionally Paul Oldham,
David Pajo, and whoever's around when shit is going down (excuse me!)."
You played in the Boxhead Ensemble for the Dutch Harbour film. Can you tell me how that came about?
"Braden King, co-maker of the DUTCH HARBOR film, asked if he could use the
song 'For the Mekons, et al' for the closing credits of his movie. I
asked if I could write a new song instead, and collaborated with Jim
O'Rourke on this song, 'Ebb's Folly'. The subsequent record, THE LAST PLACE
TO GO, was a result of a European tour to promote the film. I was part
of the traveling ensemble of musicians who played before, during, or after
the movie was shown in various venues across europe."
Did you prepare for it or was it purely improvised?
"The LAST PLACE TO GO record was all improvised material, which usually grew
from the previous evening's performance."
Do you plan to do more with the Boxhead Ensemble or the members of the
band?
"An invitation has been extended, and it's hoped on all sides that more
music will come from this collaboration."
Jim O'Rourke has mentioned wanting to work more with you. Do you plan to release new material with him?
"If God wills it."
