Besides trying to break the record for longest bandname, ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead is also here to bring anarchy back in the world of rock. Shambolic punkrock that is. From the cut'n paste intro of "And you will know them" which flows right into "Mistakes and Regrets" these guys from Austin (Texas) take you on a whirlwind tour of ghosts ("Totally Natural"), suicide ("Flood of red") and even Mark David Chapman. This is obviously not for the faint at heart. Instead keep the curtain closed and lights out.
Punk, emo or whatever you want to call it, Trail of Dead spits out its lyrics while driving you forward at a nerve-racking pace. Apart from their mod-hairdos, the drummer also thumps his drums like Who-madman Keith Moon. At times it feels like it will all fall apart but, fear not, the band keeps on going at 350 miles an hour.
It is not surprising "Madonna" was released on the excellent Merge-label, they have much in common with Superchunk (who if you didn't know established the label). Although I have the feeling that the craziness has to be seen, "Madonna" still conveys enough energy, punch and venom to get me and the walls shaking. For those who still aren't convinced, go to the TrailofDead website to download some MP3s.
