Ian Pooley is one of the great success stories in house and techno. After years of hard work on a wide variety of labels starting from the debut years of Force Inc. and Definitive over a contract with major V2 and ending in his recent quintessential release on Derrick May's Transmat he's acquired himself a status as a master remixer and top producer, a man who records more albums than others release twelfths. His style stands for enjoyable house and techno, never too aggressive or metallic, always in sync with the soulful spirit of American house. Also, together with people like Dj Sneak and Daft Punk, he's had an immense influence on the discoloop scene but judging by the overall atmosphere of this album he has mellowed out over the years. Today it are mostly the exotic grooves that tickle his sense of rhythm and it is this relaxed flow from which he departs on his first ever mixed album. Indeed, instead of excessively showing his dj skills the man chooses to produce a heavenly deep house mix that is the perfect soundtrack to a chilled Sunday afternoon pick-nick, when one concludes the weekend after having indulged in excesses-of-the-third-kind. Sunny, disco-inspired tones, horns, jazzy pianos, plenty of Rhodes, a load of congas and sweet, sexy vocals, in short: real music, are the main players and so you won't find too many big names or certified hits on this compilation. Instead you get treated to a seamlessly mixed collection of polished house gems that will only make you smile and want to enjoy yourself. The naming of tracks and artists, possible highlights would be a pretty boring affair so I'll leave it to you to discover this perfect mix during the sunny days that await us this summer. One thing I can already let out: Mister Pooley sure has got tons of style.
