Those who are into the nu-bossa sounds of labels like Compost, Irma, Schema, Far Out or Ubiquity should most definitely check out on this sublime 5-tracker, if only for the gorgeous artwork. The misty blue atmospheres of first track I Guess You Always Knew set a moody and nostalgic backdrop for what is to come. Batucamore is a more up-tempo Latin work-out with sweeping organs and rolling percussion and consequently the floor piece of the quintet. Next is a nu-jazz interpretation of eternal jazz standard Summertime and a real treat it is too. And topper I guess You Always Know also comes in a lazy, more bossa-inspired remix. Considered hot stuff by people like Joe Claussell and Rainer Trüby, this really sets a high standard for further releases. Jazzanova beware, here come Patchworks!
