The must really love her in Nashville; especially for fans of accessible country-pop, Forgive is a most enjoyable pop-influenced country record. Rebecca Lynn Howard’s Forgive contains everything that people love and hate about country music. The slick production and mainstream sound on her second album may be as polished as her brand new cowboy boots, but Forgive isn’t that bad as a collection of contemporary country songs. It’s hard to deny, but there are some annoying honky tonk cuts too, Dancing In God’s Country is a good example, and it’s getting a little too sentimental when she sings a Disney-like song about a tear (It’s My Job To Fall). Nevertheless, there is the title track as well, which is a well-made and tear-jerking ballad that contains a beautiful chorus. There are a few more songs on Forgive that are not bad (Jesus And Bartenders and It Didn’t Look Like Alcohol are ok). Still, one of the best things about Rebecca Lynn Howard is the strength of her voice. It would be better for her to move out of Nashville and join the Supersuckers or any other real rock ‘n’ roll band.
