Nice indeed. Drummer Jason Mackenroth and bassist Marcus Blake got this groove thing going here with the driving force of a locomotive, sometimes adding just a hint of funk or jazz. Blake is also not afraid to fight for a place in the spotlight with Jim Wilson, who is letting his guitar howl like a siren. All this was recorded live on analogue tape with vintage equipment for that ultra-fat sound. Exactly the kind of record that makes you want to shout "Oh yeah!" And so that's what Henry Rollins does. Of course the man still can't sing, but he's not even trying to. He still shouts with the best of them though and is probably the only 40-something who can take on that monster groove. On 'I Want So Much More' and the absolute killer 'Up For It' Rollins is backed up by some gospel style background singers, resulting in a sort of blaxploitation stonerrock. Because that's what 'Nice' basically is: one of the best stonerrock records of the year. Excellent for driving too fast or, more appropiate in Rollins' case, pumping some iron.
