Uwe Schmidt aka Atom Heart is a prolific fella. If we were to discuss his full discography at length then tomorrow evening would be a reasonable estimate to conclude the proceedings (if you only look at his output on Pete Namlook's Fax label you'll understand what I mean). Just as good at home in freaky ambient and experimental techno milieus as in the industrial scene -remember his Lassigue Bendthaus project-, he now comes forth with the most hilarious lounge project in quite a while. Presumably recorded in Santiago de Chili by the crazy crooner Señor Coconut with an all-star band of Latin-Jazz musicians, he gives us his version of Germany's famous electronic originaries Kraftwerk. And so we get "Showroom Dummies" in a Cha-Cha-Cha interpretation, "Trans Europe Express"à la Cumbia, "Tour de France" in a Merengue-guise and "The man machine" doing the infamous Baklan. And, even more surprisingly, this combination works, stressing the never suspected pop-impact of these early electro gems, rather than ridiculing them. And take a look at those extremely funny liner notes and the incredibly kitschy sleeve, aping the concept of those ludicrous 70ies coveralbums of great Rock'n Roll repertoires. A wonderful tribute to the guys that engaged the electronic revolution this is. And stay on your guard, 'cause the man is ready to release an album of Mexican pornorap ("XXX" on his label Rather Interesting ) plus more crazed-out vocoderstyle interpretations of classic evergreens ("Pop Artificielle") under his LB moniker while you're reading this. It's a mad world, but this man seems to thrive on exactly that fact.
