During their existence they made the soundtrack for their own real-life nightmares. Their music evoked images of pain, despair and severe suffering, and due to some, let's say, quite unhealthy hobbies, their own lifes were filled with the same things. Maybe it's because of that empirical gained evidence that the music was so bloody convincing in the first place. Fact is that their highly original form of industrial is still as face-crushing and dream-shattering as all those years back when it originally came out. This album contains the recordings of last year's reunion concert in Dresden, but wether it's a live recording in the true sense of the word - considering that every instrument comes out of those plastic boxes called samplers, synths and drummachines - I don't know. I don't care either, because the music still is fantastic. This album proves that Skinny Puppy was one the best industrial acts ever, and they never sold out to ride the same wave that Ministry and Nine Inch Nails brought their enormous popularity. Skinny Puppy's music is much more difficult and disturbing, the songs often don't have any returning hooks or choruses, and they are thousands of miles away from the shout aloud choruses of those other two aforementioned industrial acts. But each song has at least one genius gothic-like melody, giving the music a rather dark and depressed, and sometimes even sensitive and emotional character. This also gives all this machinery a somewhat more human aspect . Of the fourteen songs on this album, none is from the last, awesome studio album 'The Process', and I personally think that is quite a shame. Too bad, but the album still stands as the brick house that can't be blown away. But if today's musical market is still waiting for industrial remains to be seen.
